CHRISTY FRIKKEN

What was your occupation before skydiving full time?

I was a software engineer for 8 years before becoming a full time skydiver.

What are your short term and long term goals with Fury?  With skydiving in general?
My obvious short term goals involve winning the US Nationals and the world meet, preferably several times.  For the long term, I would like to see Perris Fury become a legacy level team that continues on even after the line up changes (after many years with the current line up of course).  I’m also passionate about helping the sport develop better training models and tools for learning.

Who have been your biggest influences in the sport and why?  Obviously Dan BC has played an unmeasurable role by recruiting me to move to Perris, starting Fury, and providing constant support to our team.  Airspeed were the ones who got me hooked on the whole 4-way business to start with and can take credit for helping me develop such a passion for this.

What fires you up about competing in FS?
I love the challenge that constantly striving to be your absolute best provides.  By testing yourself in competition I think you learn to understand yourself and are given the opportunity to grow.  The team aspect is also enjoyable.  I think when a group of people share a challenging, meaningful, and clear goal it creates a unique type of trust and friendship.

What’s your personal mantra?

Boldness has genius and power in it.  Begin it now.

Which Fury member has the stinkiest feet?

That has got to be Josh.  That is why he has so many shoes in the team room.

What do you eat before and during a big competition?

Move over Wheaties, I need Peanut Butter Captain Crunch.  Actually, I don’t usually get super hungry during competitions and most rely on the tried and true “little snacks all day long” approach.
